Companhia das Lezírias launched yesterday, May 25th, its first organic wine: Tyto alba Vinhas Protegidas Tinto Biológico.
The event, which took place at Herdade de Catapereiro, in Samora Correia, allowed to show the characteristics of this new wine, as well as some suggestions for pairing and counted with the interventions of the President of Companhia das Lezírias, António Sousa, the Oenologist of Companhia das Lezírias, David Ferreira and the Sommelier, André Figuinha.
With the launch of the Biological Tyto alba, Companhia das Lezírias takes another step in strengthening its commitment to sustainability and launches its first product aligned with the commitment ABC 2030: + Environment, + Biodiversity and – CO2.
This is a wine from a 2 hectares vineyard, planted in 2015, and was produced in an even less interventionist way, using very low environmental impact techniques in the vineyard and winery, focusing on sustainability and preservation of natural resources. Companhia das Lezírias’ ambition with this vineyard is to produce with the least possible intervention a high quality organic red wine in the Tagus Region.
To this end, we have promoted a production with ancestral and traditional techniques, totally eradicating the application of synthetic agrochemicals and promoting pest and weed control methods, through mechanized and natural means.
The goal in terms of quality is to offer a product with zero residues, of great typicity, intrinsically linked to a healthy diet, more particularly the Mediterranean type.
It is the first wine from Tejo Biológico Monocasta Alicante Bouschet and Single Vineyard.
It has a 14% grading and in the organoleptic tests presents a clear visual aspect, with a deep garnet color. In the olfactory aspect, the deep and frank aroma stands out, with notes of black fruits, dry vegetable, graphite and spices – and also slight notes of toasted from the barrel where it was aged. In the taste aspect, we are facing an involving and elegant wine, with a well present acidity and a full and very persistent finish.
From this first edition of the Tyto alba Tinto Biológico 15,000 bottles were produced.
At the same time, the Tyto Alba Tinto Biológico brings a new outfit, which allows it to greatly reduce its ecological footprint. The bottle, with about 30% less weight, the capsules and labels with more ecological options, and even in the external packaging there was a bet on more biodegradable materials with less environmental impact.
